    Which Tarot Card Are You

Wednesday, March 21, 2007, 04:18 AM AEST [General]

    You are The Empress

Beauty, happiness, pleasure, success, luxury, dissipation.

The Empress is associated with Venus, the feminine planet, so it represents,
beauty, charm, pleasure, luxury, and delight. You may be good at home
decorating, art or anything to do with making things beautiful.

The Empress is a creator, be it creation of life, of romance, of art or business. While the Magician is the primal spark, the idea made real, and the High Priestess is the one who gives the idea a form, the Empress is the womb where it gestates and grows till it is ready to be born. This is why her symbol is Venus, goddess of beautiful things as well as love. Even so, the Empress is more Demeter, goddess of abundance, then sensual Venus. She is the giver of Earthly gifts, yet at the same time, she can, in anger withhold, as Demeter did when her daughter, Persephone, was kidnapped. In fury and grief, she kept the Earth barren till her child was returned to her.

    Heya! An introduction :)

Sunday, February 4, 2007, 10:50 PM AEST [General]

Ooh, my first blog here...... now what to actually write....? I suppose I should just introduce myself lol.

Merry meet, I'm Nika, 20 years, and am currently studying psychology at UQ. I'm an eclectic pagan but am heavily influenced by my family's bohemian tradition, however I'm far more interested in the occult/spiritual side than the others. I currently share with my sister and her boyfriend in Ascot (Brissy), but am looking forward to moving out and sharing with two fantastic friends somewhere close to uni (St Lucia) sometime during the mid sem hols. My mum has returned to the Czech Republic permanently (where she teaches english) whilst my father travels around Australia, so it's just us here at the moment. As that can feel rather lonely at times I'm hoping to get a puppy when we move, or a kitty, I'm not too sure yet lol. As for the whole cat person, dog person thing, while that is contributing to the eventual animal friend we'll find, as one of my potential housemates is a dog person, the other (ironically nicknamed Cat lol) is a cat person.... I personally don't mind either way and think both are great lol. I currently have a blue betta fish named Schmendrick after the blue magician in one of my most favourite movies of all time: The Last Unicorn. I had a kitty, a beautiful blond part somali kitty named Apollo; he was just gorgeous but not the friendliest cat in the world lol. Sadly I had to give him away when some jerk who moved into the complex decided to adopt a 'No Pets' policy.

I love animals, okies I'm not so fussed over creatures like cockroaches or those giant grasshoppers, but otherwise am a true animal lover. As a result, I'm a vegetarian and stand firmly against things like the fur industry and all forms of animal cruelty. Like most Pagans, I'm nuts about the environment and Nature too, and I simply adore the ocean. When I was younger I just couldn't understand Ariel's motives and dreamed of being a mermaid living free in the sea.... not that I wouldn't accept such a fate now lol.

I'm also interested in all forms of mythology and "mythical" creatures, including merpeople, faeries, unicorns, centaurs, angels, pegasi, chimeras, dragons and all those wonderful and terrifying beings brightening past folklore and stories. "Mythical" creatures have always been a part of my life, and I've always felt especially close to unicorns (being attracted to them even more than to mermaids! My sister is a mini pyromaniac and loves the dragons), and this is something that's a part of our family, we even follow Peter Pan's rule of never *EVER* saying u don't believe in those wondrous human-like beings, whilst simultaneously claiming that 'yes, we're believing in faeries' whenever we're hoping for something whilst acknowledging that it isn't too likely or plausible lol. As John Lennon once said: "I believe in everything until it's disproved. So I believe in fairies, the myths, dragons. It all exists, even if it's in your mind. Who's to say that dreams and nightmares aren't as real as the here and now? Reality leaves a lot to the imagination".

My mother taught me to read the Tarot, and I'm told my grandmother was once very talented in the art, however that is perhaps the only form of high magic I practice. I otherwise stick to the low and natural path, drawing energy from the elements and earth, using herbs and crystals, and just enjoying the wonders and beauty of the world. I sell herbal potions and creams, and we also offer a party package where we supply equipment, ingredients and instructions for people to create potions/herbal remedies of their own.

I own SunnySmiles Entertainment, formally known as Magic Marionette Theater, which is a party and entertainment business offering over 60 different themed parties, face painting, party supplies, pinatas, balloon modelling, a juggler, costumed characters, even occult products such as spell boxes, some hand made jewellry and potions. Unfortunately, SunnySmiles is still in its renovation mode with Magic Marionette Theater remaining the front for the business for the next week or two. Although I'm studying psychology, with a few religion subjects thrown in as electives, I don't plan on practicing but am hoping to be an author, particularly a children's writer. I love writing poetry and telling stories, and think earning a living doing something you love will simply be a dream come true :)

Well, that's me and my life in a few simple paragraphs lol. I'm hoping to meet more Pagans, and am interested in possibly finding a group, and definately want to make many lovely new friends :). I accept all friend requests and will try my best to respond to any and all comments, and my email/MSN addy is: natural_magick@hotmail.com

MMMPMMA! And Brightest Blessings to all!

    Merry Meet, Nika,
I'm sending some laughter and good wishes back your way too! It's funny you mention apples specifically--I'm the only person I know who is allergic to them! I get weak and physically shaky when I them, colors and varieties don't make a difference.

I take your point about the general habit calorie-watching; well said! Unfortunately, I am not a normal consumer of sweets. I have a problem with obsessive sweet consumption that is probably genetic. My mother, and sadly, younger sister are both obese and diabetic, both well over 250 pounds. My father was also diabetic and even though he was sick with cancer at his death, weighed over 300 pounds. I don't drink alcohol and never have, but I sense that if I tried it, I could also be alcoholic. There aren't any alcoholics in my family or extended family. All of my relatives deal with weight related health problems. I'm the oddball. I guess my metabolism is different, but when I get a chocolate craving I can binge so much that I make myself physically sick. This is not pretty to confess, but I had to re-buy my daughter's chocolate Easter bunny this year. It was a solid pound of Russell Stover chocolate. I ate it in one sitting and felt grossly sick for hours afterward!

I don't want to deny snacks and agree with you about the benefits of chocolate, but I need to enforce portion control because if it's in front of me when I'm working, I'll eat it! I get about 50 10-page essays every two weeks to grade, correspond with students on email daily, and am writing my own papers, so I spend a lot of time sitting on my derriere! I'm trying to find ways to keep balance and stay healthy while I work.

I also agree with you about calorie-counting in general; in my age bracket the label for severe dieting is "caloric restriction," a scary obsession with longevity that can be a backdoor to anorexia. I want to stay in shape because I'm an older mother with children (14, 12, 7) and come from a family with bad genetics compounded by bad habits.

We're vegetarian and I try to make sure we eat balanced meals with protein from healthy sources, but it's hard to keep my kids from rebelling. We live in a neighborhood where garage refrigerators are stocked with Cokes and Little Debbies and trips to McDonald’s and 7-11 for Icee drinks are daily after-school occurrences. I don't buy many treats (though my kids get plenty at their friends' houses, I'm sure), and it's a rare occasion that I'll spring for fruit. It's sad, but if I buy organic fruit (which is what I buy because of the pesticides) it's extremely costly here--a tiny container of raspberries is $7.00!

It seems like only the wealthy can afford healthy food. I guess this is no great surprise!

Okay, well, it's back to my paper quota. Thanks for the thoughts and reminders about health. You sound like a very balanced and healthy person. Your photo, by the way, is lovely!

    Have a good afternoon!

    Blessings,
    j
